Answer to Question #13035 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"
Category: Medical and Dental Equipment/Shielding — Equipment
The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:
Q
What is the radiation dose risk difference between a digital radiography (DR) x ray and a computer radiography (CR) x-ray machine?
A
Both CR and DR are digital imaging technologies. A DR system has the potential for lower radiation doses, but that depends on the settings used at the imaging center. Both CR and DR will produce diagnostic quality images at lower doses than x-ray film, so either one is better than the imaging technology of a few years ago.
