Answer to Question #12870 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"
Category: Medical and Dental Equipment/Shielding — Lead Aprons
The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:
Q
When do lead aprons expire or how long are they effective?
A
As long as lead aprons are well cared for (not folded, properly hung, inspected annually and cleaned as needed), they should last for many years. I've seen well-cared-for lead aprons that have lasted decades and I have seen ones not taken care of that have not lasted one year. It is also a pretty good assumption that quality lead aprons will last longer than low-priced lead aprons. So, as we've all heard, you get what you pay for.
