Answer to Question #12710 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"
Category: Medical and Dental Equipment/Shielding
The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:
We have a mobile C-arm that is being used in two of our operating theaters. My question is, what kind of safety warning/cautions should be displayed inside and outside the theater while the C-arm is being used. Are there any specific standards like the x-ray caution signs?
You should check the regulations for where your facility is located and follow those requirements. If there are none, a temporary "Caution X-Ray" sign is common on the outside of the door(s) to the room. Typically, there are not postings in the room. However, the x-ray unit usually has a light that is illuminated when the x-ray is "on" along with an audible tone.
