Answer to Question #12002 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"
Category: Medical and Dental Equipment/Shielding
The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:
Q
I have been hired to paint the walls of an existing x-ray room at a chiropractor's office. Is there any danger of being in a room such as this for an extended period of time? The x-ray equipment will not, of course, be in use while I am painting.
A
No, there will be no x-ray radiation in the room since the x-ray unit will be turned off, and the lead in the walls does not emit any radiation. The lead is usually on the back side of the drywall, so it is unlikely that you will encounter any exposed lead either.
